John Bowen took up the bass guitar at the age of 15 after completing 3 years of piano, 4 years of boy choir, and 6 years of clarinet. He has his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance from the University of Wisconsin, where John was that school’s first Electric Bass major. While at the UW, John studied under Jazz great Richard Davis for 6 years. John was also Principle Bassist with the UW Symphony as well as the UW Jazz Ensemble.
John has completed one year of Master’s Degree work at the University of North Texas, where he played bass in the UNT 4 o’clock Lab Band. He has received music scholarships from both UNT and Berklee School of Music in Boston. John has extensive experience playing in all settings – from intimate jazz clubs to the recording studio to pit orchestras to coliseum-sized audiences. Throughout his career, he has taught bass guitar privately and has been a clinician for high school jazz ensemble rhythm sections. He is an active member of First Baptist Church of Lewisville and serves in the 11:00 worship band.
