the LAC Dance Department is dedicated to teaching and training young people
to celebrate and worship the Lord Jesus Christ whole-heartedly. We focus on recognizing the creative abilities in children and youth and then encouraging their gifts as they grow in the Lord. We want to not only teach dance as a form of worship, but more importantly, worship as a lifestyle; showing our students, by our words and example, that we can worship the Lord by how we live our lives. |
Dance Department Philosophy
the LAC Dance Department includes worship dance and movement classes which teach forms of dance such as ballet, modern, contemporary jazz, and dramatic interpretation. We offer classes for students from 3 years old to adults. Our classes are taught by professional, skilled, Christian teachers and consist of warm ups and technical dance training.
Our Performing Worship Dance Company consists of students who are technically trained in classical dance, but most importantly, have the hearts of passionate worshipers. They each have the desire to draw others into the presence of God through their dancing. To be a part of this group, a student must also be enrolled in one other dance class. This group will share their gifts with our church as well as other area churches. A student must participate in a brief audition and a meeting time with our Dance Director and Creative Director.

Prek Combo Ballet/Tap Class
Tuesdays ~ 9:45am - 10:30am
Thursdays ~ 4:00pm - 4:45pm

Ages 3 - 5
$50 per pay cycle
Dancers will enjoy this interactive ballet/tap combination class that builds on basic movements learned in the Creative Movement class. The Tap portion of the class will concentrate on building confidence through mastering more difficult patterns and steps. The Ballet portion of class includes an introduction of ballet steps as well as positions in center. This exciting class is a fun way to introduce your child to dance!
Attire: Black leotard, pink or tan tights, pink ballet shoes and black tap shoes
PreK Worship Dance Class
Wednesdays ~ 5:00 pm - 5:45 pm
Ages 3 - 5
$50 per pay cycle
In this class, little ones will learn how to worship God through their dance. They will use ribbons, tambourines, and other props to help paint the picture of the lyrics of the songs. Each class will consist of a warm up, dance techniques, and worship through dance. Each class will also have a short devotional time.
No requirements, entry level class
Attire: Comfortable attire. Shorts and t-shirts. Dancers will be dancing barefoot. No Midriff.

School Aged Classes
School Aged Combo Tap/Ballet Class
Thursdays ~ 4:30pm - 5:30pm (Ages 6 - 10)

This is an introductory class and is used to train those children who have not been introduced to this art form yet. Combination classes are a great way for students to experience different types of dance in a one-hour instructional time. They will be instructed in the basics of ballet and tap. They will also be introduced to the ballet barre and become familiar with dance terminology. This is a great class to help introduce and develop your future dancer.
Attire: Black leotard, tan or pink tights, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes. Hair should be placed in a bun.
Ballet
Ages 5 - 16 (upon placement)
Ballet 1 ~ Tuesdays ~ 10:30am - 11:30am
Ballet 1 ~ Tuesdays ~ 4:30pm - 5:30pm
Ballet 2 ~ Thursdays ~ 6:30pm - 7:30pm
$60 per pay cycle
Classes emphasize the development of classical ballet skills with a focus on proper placement and alignment. Students will learn ballet vocabulary through both barre and center floor work, while building strength and flexibility. All school age students begin in Level 1 and move through levels with teacher recommendation.
Attire: Black leotard, pink tights & pink ballet shoes. Hair should be placed in a bun.
Jazz
Jazz 1 (Ages 7 to 13)
Thursdays 6:30pm - 7:30pm
$60 a pay cycle
Students will learn basics of jazz dance technique. A series of stretches and conditioning techniques performed in the warm-up portion of the class, will improve flexibility, strength, balance and core control. Each class will give the student a deeper understanding of body alignment, shifting of the weight, and confidence with floor work. This class encourages dancers to explore freedom of movement, self- expression, and is fun and upbeat. This class includes leaps, turns and floor work. Come join us as we explore the world of dance together!
Attire: Black leotard with black tights or jazz pants that do not touch the floor and black jazz shoes. Hair pulled to a ponytail.
Drill Team Prep
Thursdays ~ 7:00pm - 8:00pm
$60 per pay cycle
Drill Team Prep Class is fun active class for girls of middle to high school age. This class will focus on flexibility, extending kicks, and perfecting splits. Students will learn proper kick technique as well as jazz technique that will help them in their auditions for Drill Team. Each week they will learn different choreography that will range from Hip Hop, Jazz, Kick, and Modern. This class will prepare our dancers to be confident for their Drill Team Audition.
Attire: Comfortable clothes. Shorts and t-shirts. No mid drifts please. Tennis shoes
Worship Dance Troupe
Tuesdays ~ 5:30pm - 6:30pm
$60 per pay cycle
This troupe will be a select group of our dancers and will be using their gifts in the services at First Baptist Church of Lewisville as well as local and community events. This troupe is our performing dance troupe for the LAC. In order to be in this Troupe, your student must be enrolled in another LAC lesson or class.
